ICEI: Post 4 SUMMARY Freedom of speech
Freedom of speech

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/nov/14/mexico-freedom-of-speech-presumed-guilty
Jo Tuckman explains that the Mexican documentary named Presumed Guilty provoked a very controversial case, because it is about a man wrongly convicted of murder twice. This film won many awards and had a great recognition on spectators but only through piracy because formal communication media did not approved its transmission on TV, so as it was banned by Mexican authorities less than a month after its release.
The author argue that this film also triggered a hard debate on the Mexican judicial system and even the film maker is in a big trouble with justice because of this film, and its reported that he has received some dead threats,
The author explains that the story of the films describes the life of a street vendor convicted of murder on very flimsy evidence amid obvious abuses of authority and due process.
This article shows that the The film-maker has directly accused the Mexico City's judicial hierarchy. The author says that this accusation is directed to prove that the judges are secretly driving forward the cases against this film as a reprisal for the way the film exposed the entire system.
Tuckman points out that the documentary's legal problems must answer from complaints from a witness who admits, on camera, that he lied about seeing the street vendor, Antonio Zuñiga, shoot the murder victim. And it reports too that apparently the police office who arrested the vendor has complained because he was accused for arresting Zuñiga without a warrant or any proof.
ICEI Post 7. Year 2013: Good and bad things
What a year !!!
This year has been a very exciting year. First, I left my parent´s house and now on I will be an independent man. I found a job on weekends that allows me to live well with my girlfriend and I like that job a lot.
Besides, my post grade project in the university was approved so I have been working in a professional way to create a great and intelligent documentary about the history of chilean workers.
There have been some situations that did not go so well this year, one of them is related to my university project. Because I had to give my total time and attention to this, I was not able to find a better job, maybe Monday to Friday from 8 am to 16 pm, and if I had that kind of job maybe I could have traveled more or buying some things I needed.
I guess my mayor achievement in 2013 has been my participation in an international congress of communications and media. Many specialists ans professionals in my specialization were invited to expose their findings and investigations and I shared a table with them, besides two of my papers were published, so I think it was a very successful moment.
Well, but this year is far from perfection, I need to do some things like learning how to drive a car, but I'm waiting for summer. Even though my mayor concern is to finish my documentary, that is not the end of it, because once it's done I have to present it for several festivals and maybe participate in some film awards. No one
Maybe the most important news that I might highlight could be the classification of Chilean national soccer team that classified to the World Cup in Brazil in 2014. As I am a big fan of football soccer I'm really happy for this event. I only hope that I have the chance to travel even if is a long way to Brazil instead of watching it on television.
Post 6: My dear Italian cinema
Since I was child, I really enjoyed classic movies, I don´t know
why but maybe I love that kind of stories. But not any movie, I mostly preferred
Italian neorealistic films. In opposition to Hollywood classic movies, because I
didn´t understand that way of life and obviously they were to musicals.
So well, Italian directors such as Rosellini, Felini,
Antonioni, ViscontI, , De Sicca and many others that appeared some years after
like Taviani brothers or Pasollini showed me how that kind of cinema is the cinema
that every society needs, films that could be very critical and fun at the same
time.
The humor of the Italian films is sublime and
they describe perfectly their society, but this neorealistic style is not to
the purpose of entertaining people but
to generate new interpretations of their communities.
After World War 2, Italy woke up totally
destroyed, in a physically and morally way. Cities were devastated and many
people died, the film industry had to reinvent their spaces and find new gaps
and possibilities. There were no big studies so many film makers took their
cameras and equipment and went off the street and recorded reality but they
tried to show all the misery that war and fascism had created in that nation.
Some films like : LADRI
DI BICICLETTE and UMBERTO D by Vittorio
de Sicca, ROMA CITTÀ APERTA and GERMANIA ANNO ZERO by Rossellini, LA TERRA
TREMA by Visconti , were tremendous films that describe a moment
and project a complete new kind of movies that still remains in the memories of
any who love Italian movies.
Post 5: How green am I?
I have mostly
learned about environmentally friendly practices surfing the web, I think it’s
the only permanent media that shows how to maintain good habits, in several
pages I have found many tips about to protect water or maintain fresh air.
Now that I live by myself,
I mean, no longer with my parents I‘ve been able to incorporate recycling into
my habits, such as create “compost” to recycle all the organic trash, like
fruits skins and rotten vegetables, eggshells and potato peels. So, I am using that
compost to fertilize the earth for the garden.
Well, I currently
use my bike, I am a good biker, and as I can`t drive a car I obviously prefer
my bike. It is an old bike but I have maintain it in very good shape.
Officially, I don’t
support any eco-organization but I like the performance o SEA SHEPPARD, they
protect whales and other see animals fighting against big corporations that kill
many defenseless animals using the meanest ways. So, the only way to stop them
is fighting back and resists their attacks. Sometimes they get in trouble but
this organization has good contacts and their members have a lot of supporters.
I don´t know, I
can´t afford a more green kind of life, because is considerably expensive
living in a green way of life. Maybe, I could regulate my time in front of this
computer, because these machines are not very friendly with the environment,
what a contradiction.
So, to reduce my carbon
footprint I have tried to use the computer less, or watching TV only a few
hours a day, I use my bike more than cars and a I don’t buy anything that a I
don’t need. Because I think that consumerism is one of the biggest causes of
the depredation on earth and this awful kind of life is very present in our
society. Santiago is one of the most problematic city about contamination and
total lack of interest to protect our air or water and in this city our
authorities maintain this capitalist system and this system is not aware of the
environment.
